The end of August makes us all stay riveted to the screens wanting to watch our favorite stars, sashaying down the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. No wonder it is called the most glamorous event of the year.
You can trace back the event to as far back as 1932. VFF is a festival where every actor turns up in their finest gears and designs. There have been unforgettable looks from the red carpet, right from Amal Clooney’s lilac-hued Atelier Versace dress in 2017 to Sophia Loren’s unforgettable '50s taffeta dress. This year too, the stars did not disappoint and they turned up at their very best. Let's check out a few of the best looks.
Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson was a vision in red, she had selected this show-stopping Valentino confection straight from the brand's Resort 22 collection for the film, Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, that went onto premiere on Sept. 5 during the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Our favorite was the tulle gown including the lace details with a high neck, boasting of a stunning silhouette.
Anya Taylor Joy
We were in love with the color of Anya Taylor-Joy's hot pink satin dress at the Venice Film Festival, attending the premiere of her film Last Night in Soho on Sept. 4. However, we wished she could do away with the hat. The actress wore a neon Dior design with short sleeves, a bow detail at the waist, and matching pointy-toe pumps, which were all in sync with her overall look.
Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz was exquisite in her look at the Parallel Mothers premiere on Sept. 2 at the ongoing Venice Film Festival. The star owned the monochrome look in her Chanel gown, complete with the ruffled straps and an ecru silk tulle ruffled petticoat, that was from the fashion house's 2021 couture collection. The look was fun and fierce yet very elegant.
Jennifer Lopez
J.Lo's red carpet debut made heads turn as she made her appearance with her beau by her side, Ben Affleck, at the premiere of his film The Last Duel. The singer-actress made a statement in white, sleeveless Georges Hobeika gown which had a plunging neckline complete with Swarovski crystal embellishments and a thigh-high slit. Her silver Jimmy Choo peep-toe heels and Cartier jewels were hard to miss.
Jodie Comer
Jodie Comer brought the sheer-skirt trend back to the 2021 Venice Film Festival premiere of the film. The Last Duel and The Killing Eve actress was distinctive in her black Alaia turtleneck dress that featured a sheer pleated skirt, but what caught our eye was the asymmetrically sheer top. She rounded off her look with heeled boots.
Maggie Gyllenhaal
Maggie Gyllenhaal turned up in a loose-fitting Proenza Schouler pick. She wore it as she went to collect her award for best screenplay during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Her black pumps were perfectly paired with the black-and-green attached bralette.
Olivia Culpo
Olivia Culpo's knocked green PINKO gown look was another winner. The look had sheer mint panels alongside lacy emerald panels on the skirt during the premiere of America Latina. She accessorized the look with chain-link Pomellato pieces: a choker, drop earrings, a bracelet, and a ring.
Zendaya
Zendaya never fails to impress with her look and the Venice Film Festival premiere of her film Dune was no different. The stunner wore a flesh-toned leather gown by Balmain which had strategic draping. The skirt along with the thigh-high slit complete with the delicate train detail was a total win-win. She paired her unique look with matching pumps and her accessories were a complete show-stealer as well.
Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson chose to sport a trouser look instead of the more conventional gown. The star looked gorgeous in her fitted Gucci pantsuit at the photoshoot of The Lost Daughter. She looked sharp in the pant-suit look which went without the undershirt, instead of going for a black bandeau underneath her coordinates. Her strappy black sandals were a complete winner as well.
Although there are a few hits and misses at the Venice Film Festival, it is never short of one thing - that's right oodles and oodles of glamor! This year too, the stars pulled out all the stops to look their best on the red carpet, and we for one certainly are not complaining!
