Amber Heard has probably hogged the spotlight more than ever, for reasons we believe the world knows best! But that hasn’t deterred her from suffering on the professional front, if not totally. Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit no doubt cast a shadow of darkness in her life. The trial that concluded a few days back awarded Depp with a whopping $10.35 million and Heard received $2 million. But that’s just a part of her otherwise grim personal life. While the jury got busy deliberating on the final verdict, the stars kept up with their preparations for blockbusters galore. And that’s not wrong. Amber will be seen in 3 projects soon. She makes a comeback as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - all set to release in March, the next year.
What Are Her Upcoming Films?
Aquaman 2 is also complete. Most of her co-artists and crew members had high words of appreciation for her when asked what exactly the status of the movie is. Dolph Lundgren loved the experience of working with her, right from the start of the shoot in London, last October.
The PEOPLE magazine didn’t fail to report how her kindness shone throughout the making of the film! Also, Variety stated that In the Fire occurred just a few weeks before her trial. In this Italian-produced film, where the script was penned down by Pascal Bono, Silvio Muraglia, and Conor Allyn (of No Man’s Land fame), she will star opposite Eduardo Noriega.
As per reports, Heard had wrapped off the shoot, even before the trial commenced. The film set in the 1800s, showcases her essaying the role of a North American psychiatrist who moves to a remote plantation, for taking care of a specially-abled boy. When the psychiatrist tries to delve and find scientific explanations for what led the boy to develop such strange ‘abilities’, she faces backlash from the small town.
Not to forget, another project where she’s set to star is Run Away with Me. The film is all about an American based in Paris who falls for a model and becomes highly passionate about the newfound love. Eventually, the duo then discovers the ‘criminal underworld’ of Europe’s highly successful modeling industry.
Why Her Presence In The Aquaman Series Isn’t A Pleasing One For The Brand?
It wouldn’t be music to the ears, but most of the actress’ parts were initially decided to be removed, at least by Warner Bros. Pictures. And this was applicable for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, only after the verdict came out in the open, following the defamation lawsuit between Amber Heard, and her ex-partner, Johnny Depp.
If the press reports are to be believed, the recent meeting of executives led to such a decision about removing Heard from the sequel. Heard, the Zombieland actor had starred in the first Aquaman movie, wherein she portrayed the character of Mera, Arthur Curry, or Aquaman’s love interest. She was the daughter of King Nereus and the princess of Xebel.
While she recorded most of her scenes in London, at the time of the Fall of 2021, Heard’s sudden absence might be the question for most viewers. But then, it was decided that a link could be made of an off-screen death! Her character, that is Mera, can die at the time of childbirth which would prevent her from re-appear on screen in the sequel. This action can’t be frowned upon also. Creative requirements can vary, or sudden changes in the script. Also, this wouldn’t invite any ‘unwelcome attention’ at the time of the spring 2015 release of the DC Extended Universe episode.
Two Sides Of Heard
When the first film was released in 2018, Depp lost the libel case. This in turn got him labeled as a ‘wife beater’! After reports came to the open that Heard will star in the sequel, a petition was also created that demanded the actor be removed from the project altogether. Strangely, ‘Remove Heard from Aquaman 2’ had acquired more than 4 million signatures!
The description was replete with allegations aplenty against the actor, which even claimed how she ‘systematically crusaded’ against Depp and produced ‘fake accounts of abuse’.
While certain things can’t be changed, the American actress who has acted in a host of films earlier will of course prove her mettle in the tinsel world. Now how the audience reacts to her onscreen presence is best left to fate.
