"Ted" was the first time Seth MacFarlane brought his style of humor to the big screen, but it won’t be long until we see more of everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed New England teddy bear. After beginning filming earlier this year, the first season of the planned Peacock prequel series based on the smash film is nearly complete.
Prior to the premiere of the series on Peacock, MacFarlane provided Collider with further information on the series. The "Ted" television series will be a prequel set in 1993 and chronicling Ted and John’s adolescent years. The series “embrace[s] the period” by emphasizing its chronological setting. According to MacFarlane, the tone of the series would be similar to that of the "Ted" films, making it likely appealing to "Ted" fans. MacFarlane also mentions that the series would have pioneering CGI, as it is uncommon for the main character of a live-action television program to be entirely computer-generated.

Seth MacFarlane reveals fresh plot elements for the forthcoming prequel television series "Ted." In 2012, MacFarlane directed the first film, in which he also voiced the bawdy teddy bear. The comedy is targeted squarely at an adult audience that follows John Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) as he realizes his boyhood dream of his teddy bear coming to life.
Ted acts like a peer to John and is a beer-drinking, cussing, and marijuana-smoking stuffed animal rather than the cuddly toy he cherished as a youngster. John must choose between sustaining his unusual bond with the humanized teddy bear or his relationship with his fiancée Lori during the course of the wacky comedy (Mila Kunis).

In mid-2021, Peacock was said to be developing a live-action "Ted" prequel television series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBCUniversal Entertainment Content chief Susan Rovner floated the notion of bringing Ted back to life during an introductory conversation with the former Warner Bros. Seth MacFarlane will provide the voice for Ted, as well as direct, co-write, co-show run, and co-executive produce the whole production.
MacFarlane is the creator of the popular television series "Family Guy" and the films "Ted" and "Ted 2." Now, he plans to return to the big screen with a new prequel series based on his "Ted" flicks, which will have his distinctive sense of comedy. The series is anticipated to premiere sometime in 2019. The co-showrunners are Paul Korrigan and Brad Walsh, who also co-wrote the show.

MacFarlane allayed the fears of people who feared that the standards of the tiny screen might have an impact on the series. "It resembles a movie. There are no broadcasting standards. It is a comedy classified R. Therefore, our standards are identical to those for the film," MacFarlane explained. "The obstacles Ted faces are primarily external. You are dealing with an environment that is perhaps a bit less conducive to comedy than in the past. This is absolutely something we are cognizant of, since we intend to keep Ted Ted. We want to ensure that it has not been changed."
